When you hear your husband say, “I want to remodel the house” your mind immediately starts racing.
If he remodels, will it be done in a timely fashion?
Does he know what he’s doing?
Here’s a question you should ask: What if he hurts himself?
My answer? Go to Beaumont Emergency Center.
What started out as a simple Monday filled with countless coffee cups and stacks of to-do items, ended up with a pleasant medical emergency.
You read that right. I said pleasant. Who would of thought that a scary situation could relax me?
I got home on said Monday and noticed my husband, Connor, working on our house, I paid no attention to it. He obviously looked busy so I decided to let him be. But, maybe I should go say hello…I’m thankful that I did. Connor’s eye was bloodshot red and he could barely see out of it.
Immediately, I started panicking. What in the world happened?! He told me how sawdust landed in his eye and he had been trying to remove it since 2:30 this afternoon.
It was 5:00 p.m.
Quickly, I grabbed the keys and said, “We’re going to the emergency room.” My husband, like most men, was very hesitant about this. Connor is very good about avoiding doctors but after seeing (or I should say, hearing) my concern, he decided to go.
At 7:00 pm we arrived at Beaumont Emergency Center. Rumor had it that you would see a doctor within an hour and I was ready to decipher fact from fiction. With our toddler at our in-laws, I knew we needed to get back home as quickly as possible. I was immediately blown away by not only the look and feel of the space but also the size of it. Most emergency rooms are always cramped and uncomfortable; there were comfy chairs, drinks to sip on while we waited and large TV’s I appreciated to help me get my mind off of why we were there.
The check-in process was very simple. After filling out some paperwork and a copy of my important documents, it was maybe 10 minutes that we waited before being taken into a room.
From there the process was flawless. It really made me question why it takes so long at other facilities. The nurse came immediately and started asking questions about what happened. The best part was, she generally cared about Connor’s well being. It didn’t feel like we were just other patients or a number waiting to be called on…she was concerned about how much pain my husband was in. That small dose of care gave me great trust in BEC.
Also, to see how relaxed Connor was relaxed me. Remembering how nervous he was when our son was born, I expected a stressful situation. The way the nurse handled everything and assured Connor that relief was on its way provided for a very calm start to our emergency.
Fifteen minutes rolled by and the doctor came in. Just as we had suspected, Connor had scratched his eye after trying to remove the sawdust himself. Right there, the doctor provided drops, an antibiotic prescription and immediate relief for my husband.
Just as we were walking out, I checked my watch. 8:02 pm. Not bad at all. I was thinking about how had we gone anywhere else, it might have been midnight before we were taken to a room.
Now here’s the real kicker…we went about our week and about six days later I received a phone call. Now normally I don’t answer the phone when it’s a number I don’t recognize but since it was in Beaumont, I assumed someone needed to speak with me.
It was the nurse from BEC …she did not call for billing questions or concerns; she simply wanted to know how we were doing. Completely floored by this, we spent about 15 minutes talking about how both of our husbands like to tackle at-home projects, our kids and what to do if Connor needed anything.
Our family was hooked. We loved knowing that someone, a complete stranger, was genuinely interested in our well-being. It was more about the relationship with the patient rather than getting us out as quickly as possible. That level of interest provided trust from our family that will last.
As my son gets older, the to-do list gets longer and life goes on, I’ll definitely continue to recommend and use Beaumont Emergency Center for my family. The fast services, knowledgeable staff and ultimate care is why I will always choose BEC for our family’s medical needs.
